‘SNL’ Weekend Update Mocks Democrats After Donald Trump Win

Saturday Night Live (SNL) took aim at the Democratic Party in its Weekend Update, after Donald Trump’s election win on Tuesday.
In a decisive political comeback, Trump swept all swing states, winning both the popular vote and the White House, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, while his party retook the Senate and look on course to win the House of Representatives
SNL hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che took aim at Democrats and their failure to win despite Trump’s many setbacks on the campaign trail.
“On Tuesday, we learned that Democrats actually don’t know how to rig an election,” Jost opened, referencing Trump’s ongoing statements that the 2020 election was rigged.
“It’s like we’re living in a computer simulation, and whoever’s controlling Trump has a cheat code. He’s invincible. He’s like a character in Grand Theft Auto who throws a prostitute out of a car and drive straight to the White House. But don’t you guys worry if I know Democrats, they’re going to take a long look in the mirror, learn from their mistakes, and then run [Joe] Biden again in 2028.”
Jost went on to joke about Biden’s old age and his widely criticized performance in his June debate against Trump, after which he ended his reelection bid. “President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office next week, where Biden will finally finish a sentence he started at the debate,” Jost said.
Trump and Biden are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss the presidential transition.
An invitation from a sitting president to the president-elect is customary during a presidential transition. However, in 2020, Trump, then the sitting president, did not acknowledge Biden’s election victory and has not conceded, because he said the election was stolen via widespread fraud. Accordingly, Biden did not receive an invitation to the White House before his inauguration.
Che, who delivered the news broadcast while drinking liquor in sorrow, joked that he allowed his white liberal colleagues to give him hope for a Harris victory.
“How did I let y’all convince me that rural Pennsylvania would pick the Jamaican Indian lady?” he said. “Clearly, I’ve been spending too much time with you white liberals, and your goofy optimism. It wasn’t even close. At one point, Trump was so far ahead they put in Bronny.”
Jost joked that the Democrats, like Che, might need to self-medicate to sooth the loss.
“Before the election, Trump said he would let RFK Jr. ‘go wild on medicine,’ which is what Democrats have been doing all week,” Jost said, while displaying an image of a pill bottle of Xanax, an anxiety medication.
