BALTIMORE– A quadruple shooting in Elkton claimed two lives and injured two others early Saturday morning, according to Maryland State Police (MDSP).
State police responded to a shooting on Chestnut Drive around 6:00 a.m. after reports of a man lying in the middle of the road.
One of the deceased has been identified as Tamir Rasheek Davis, a 26-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware. Davis was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.
The other deceased individual has not been positively identified. However, the cause of death for both individuals is unknown and pending the results of an autopsy.
The two others who were hospitalized are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Their conditions are unknown and their identities have been withheld pending police investigation.
Some Elkton neighbors were surprised by the large police presence.
“I came downstairs to check the mail. I opened the mailbox and I was like, ‘Woah, what is going on?'” Cecil County resident Andrea said.
Another neighbor who did not want to talk on camera said she heard multiple gunshots early Saturday morning.
She said she has never experienced that during her time living in the neighborhood.
Crime scene tape roped off a section of Chestnut Drive. Behind the tape, more than 20 police evidence markers were on the ground.
Police had at least three vehicles towed from the scene.
This scene comes as no surprise to Adonis Wilkins.
“It’s not the first time a shooting like this has happened,” he said. “It’s been multiple shootings the past four, five years…It’s kind of terrible because kids and stuff be out here.”
Wilkins recalls seeing a gathering in this area the night before.”They were having a little event,” he said. “I went home and went to sleep. I didn’t realize what happened until I woke up this morning and saw everything was blocked off.
“It’s scary,” Andrea said. “Now, I’m wondering if it’s safe.”
Andrea feels heartbroken for the victims and their families. Now, she questions her safety considering Saturday’s crime scene was across the street from her home.
“I don’t want to get used to that,” she said. “So, I wish there would be a resolution. I’m not sure what kind of resolution would but this is not safe. This is not a safe environment.”
She said she’s most concerned about her son when he comes home from work overnight.
“I really don’t want to have to think about him getting to the door and right outside the door, something was to happen to him,” she said.
A State Police spokesperson said there’s no threat to the public.
No further information has been disclosed about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the whereabouts of any suspects involved, or related details.
